Men and Women picked fourth in SAC Preseason Poll

ROCK HILL, S.C.- The South Atlantic Conference announced the preseason coaches' polls for men's and women's indoor track on Friday, Dec. 2.

The women's track and field team placed fourth in the SAC preseason poll with a score of 96, while the men took fourth with 105 points in the voting.

On the women's side, Lenoir-Rhyne placed first with 128 points and eight first-place votes. Wingate (124) and Anderson (101) secured second and third place in the poll with Anderson scoring only five points ahead of the Eagles.

"I think many will be surprised with how deep our women's team is this year. We have had a great fall of workouts, and I like the direction we are heading," Carson-Newman head track and field coach David Needs said.

Tytiana Wilson and Sydney McCarty were named SAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes to watch for the upcoming season.

Wingate was picked as a favorite on the men's side of the poll with 129 points and eight first place votes. Lenoir-Rhyne (117) placed second in the poll, and Limestone (107) finished in third with only two more points than the Eagles.

Makanakaishe Charamba and Courtavious Garrett were listed as 2022-23 SAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes to Watch.

"We know that often initial polls reflect last season. It is our plan to not live off the successes of last season, but to forge a new path of success through hard work and dedication," Needs said.

The 2022-23 SAC Indoor Track & Field season begins this weekend leading to the 2023 SAC Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship held at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C. in late February.
