VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.- Carson-Newman looks to secure qualifying marks at Division II Pre-Nationals this weekend.

Carson-Newman track and field is headed to the Division II Pre-Nationals at Norfolk State University this weekend beginning Friday, Feb. 10 at 8:00 a.m. in Virginia Beach, Va.

"Going to meets like this and exposing the athletes to bigger, more high-pressure meets is a good way to help them deal with the pressure of even bigger events. Secondly, speaking with the athletes and making sure they are prepared mentally, physically, and emotionally for these moments is so important," track and field coach Kieran Showler-Davis said.

The meet will take place in four sessions over a two-day span. The track and field events will be held during sessions two and four. Session two will take place on Friday, Feb. 10 at 5:00 p.m. beginning with the women's 60-meter dash prelims. Session four will begin on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 2:00 p.m. with the women's 200-meter dash and high jump events.

Norfolk State University will host the 2023 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships in early March as well.

"It's good that we get to go there and experience the track. We've never been there before, so it'll be nice to get the bearings for the place and get to run on the track. Competition should be high, so it will probably be a lot of the same people we will see at nationals. Our training has been gearing up nicely for this meet, so I think everyone is ready to roll," Showler-Davis said.
