Last Chance Meet ahead for the Eagles

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.- Carson-Newman track and field is set to compete at the Lee University Last Chance Meet on Saturday, May 13.

The Lee University Last Chance meet will begin tomorrow, May 13 at 8:30 a.m. Running events will begin first, and field events are set to start at 9:00 a.m. with the men's and women's hammer throw. The full meet schedule can be found HERE

"We talked a lot about where we should send the team this weekend as a coaching staff. There were a lot of different places we could go, but our overall goal is to have as many athletes go to nationals as we can, so we had to make sure we were choosing the right place," head track and field coach David Needs said.

This will be the final meet before the 2023 NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championships that begin Thursday, May 25 at the Neta & Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colo. The three day meet will conclude Carson-Newman track and field's 2023 outdoor season.

"This meet gives us a great opportunity to hopefully get more of our team on that trip to nationals as we head into the end of the season. We still need to be smart, though. Some of our athletes are already set to head to nationals, so we don't want to overwork them or give them too long of a break. Ultimately, we just want to make sure we are firing on all cylinders when we get there," Needs said.

The Last Chance Meet will be the athletes' final opportunity to secure national qualifying marks before championship selections take place on Tuesday, May 16.

"It's an important meet and an exciting meet for us. I am excited to see how we perform. The season isn't over yet, and we have our eyes set on this weekend and what comes after," Needs said.

Carson-Newman track and field will compete for the final time before national competition this weekend at the Lee University Last Chance Meet. Live results will be available HERE. Stay up to date on cneagles.com.
