JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.- Carson-Newman track and field is headed to both the Flames Invitational and Tennessee Invite for the fourth week of outdoor competition.
"Last weekend was really good for us. I mean, you go to compete against the best in the country, and when you come out on top, it shows a lot about where we are trying to go as a program," head track and field coach David Needs said. "In the past, Tennessee has mainly let Division I teams attend, but we were invited this year, and the Lee meet is a stellar meet too, so we are looking to continue competing at that high level this weekend".
The Flames Invitational will take place in Cleveland, Tenn. over two days this weekend. On Friday, April 7, track events will begin at 8:00 a.m. Field events will begin with the men's hammer throw at 11:00 a.m. Both track and field events will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 8.
"Both Lee and Tennessee have high standards for their meets, so it's kind of a balance and mix of who is going to which meet," Needs said.
At the Tennessee Invite, track and field events will begin at 12:00 p.m. on both Friday, April 7 and Saturday, April 8.
"We're excited to get some of our people doing their better events. We think we can rise, and we know there are a lot of positives to come. We just want to use this weekend to continue to climb up the rankings and work on bettering ourselves as we go," Needs said.
