De Sousa placed second in the women's 200-meter race on Saturday, Jan. 14 with a time of 25.05. She then grabbed gold in the women's 60-meter race with a new personal record of 7.41 seconds in the event. Along with her first-place finish, De Sousa also broke the Namibian senior women's 60-meter record in her home country for the second time in two months after breaking in during the Bast-Cregger Invitational in early December.
On the field, Kadidja Sangare was named the SAC Varsity Gems Women's Field Athlete of the Week meaning that Carson-Newman swept the women's side of track and field recognition for last week's performance.
