Men remain top-10 in the nation after Week 5 of the TFRI

NEW ORLEANS, La.- Carson-Newman men's track and field was ranked No. 10 in week five of NCAA DII Men's Outdoor Track & Field National TFRI on Monday, April 24.

Carson-Newman men's track and field was ranked 10th in the NCAA DII Men's Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Teams are compared with only marks from the current season. The Eagles racked up 101.08 points in the rankings based on the first six weeks of the outdoor season. 

Most recently, Makanakaishe Charamba won gold in the men's 200-meter dash with a time of 20.65 seconds at the Georgia Tech Invitational. Carson-Newman men's track and field placed first in the men's 4x100-meter relay. Charamba raced with teammates Dawson JonesDevon Moore and Siphosethu Boya. The quartet won the event with a time of 39.66. Charamba also placed second in the men's 100-meter dash in 10.29. Moore finished fourth in the event in 10.36, and Boya placed ninth in 10.45. Aswhin Jood finished eighth in the men's 400-meter dash with a 47.87-second performance, and Matthew Blackmon placed sixth in the men's 110-meter hurdles in 14.50 seconds.

The Eagles also competed in the LR Outdoor Open where KJ Laribo placed sixth in the men's 400-meter dash in 49.34. Taylor Dupler finsihed 11th for the men in 50.56, his best-time-ever in the event. 

In the men's triple jump, Courtavious Garrett won gold with a 14.51-meter mark. Camden Fritz placed fourth in the men's long jump with a 7.00-meter leap for a new personal best in the event. 

In the men's high jump, Shane Connell won gold with a 2.00-meter mark, and teammate Oluwafemi Richards finished second with a 1.95-meter mark in the event. KJ Kemp placed third in a three-way tie with his 1.90-meter performance, and Jackson Bostick grabbed sixth place in another three-way tie with a 1.85-meter mark. 

Ian Salyer placed fourth in the men's discus throw with a 41.23-meter mark. Luke Smith competed in the men's shot put and placed second with a 15.14-meter personal best performance.

In men's javelin throw event, Trent Lovelace placed seventh with a 41.68-meter mark, Christian Henry finished eighth with a mark of 40.56 meters, and James Duncan rounded out the top 10 with a 37.52-meter performance. Bryson Burkett finished 19th with a 31.99-meter mark. All four Eagles set new personal records in the event. 

This is the third week in a row that Carson-Newman men's track and field has been ranked in the top-10 teams in DII. Carson-Newman track and field will race again at the SAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships beginning Wednesday, May 3. Stay up to date on cneagles.com.
