First day of the Finn Pincus Invitational in the books for the Eagles

SALEM, Va.- Carson-Newman track and field start strong in day one of the Finn Pincus Invitational.

The Eagles end the first day of the Finn Pincus Invitational with provisional marks and personal improvements.  

"Just like in previous meets, it is great when we have so many making huge improvements each time they compete," head coach for the track and field team David Needs said.

Kadidja Sangare placed second in the 60-meter hurdles prelims with a qualifying time of 8.82 seconds. Kyle Nabe found a sixth-place finish on the men's side of the event in 8.85 seconds, and Jackson Bostick placed ninth in 9.18.  

Nathalie Schumacher finished with gold for her 1.68-meter performance in the women's high jump. Morgan Stanton also found the podium, placing third with a 1.58-meter clearance.

"Great start today. It was great to have Nathalie and Siphosethu back and hitting provisional marks in their first meet," Needs said.

Siphosethu Boya finished fourth in the men's 60-meter sprint prelims with a national qualifying time of 6.93. Boya then beat his own time to place third in the 60-meter semis in 6.85 seconds. Tshenelo Lemao finished top-10 for the Eagles in 7.02 seconds.

Katie Smock finished fourth in the women's 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:11.50.

"With a limited group tonight, the emphasis will be on throws and distance tomorrow with continued consistency in the sprints and jumps," Needs said.

The Eagles will compete again tomorrow beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the Kerr-Cregger Fieldhouse in Salem, Va.
